This highlight of last year’s workshop programme got rave reviews from all who attended, and we’re thrilled Tricia and Ripeka are returning. Attendees last year said they felt welcomed as if they were family, allowed to share ancient secrets of the health-giving properties of many everyday New Zealand native plants, and learned about the plants’ ability to heal wounds, to enhance health and ensure wellbeing.
Maori health has always been holistic; hauora refers to physical, mental, emotional as well as spiritual health. Tricia and Ripeka are passionate about rongoā rākau, preparations from New Zealand plants. They have spent their lifetimes studying, practising and developing their skills and they love to share their knowledge.
In their two workshop sessions this year they will be teaching how to prepare potions and lotions, medicinal products with an amazing array of smells, tastes and applications, and all made from the fruits of the bush around us. As well as learning about teas, poultices and insect repellents, attendees will make an exfoliant scrub, a massage cream and a skin toner, all with ingredients sourced from local plants and all to take home.
